Errata

There are a few issues with our initial hardware that should be considered with use.

Battery Drain

Overview

The device exhibits a notable behavior while in its 'off' state. Despite being powered down, the device continues to keep its Wi-Fi access point active (design intention to allow device recovery). This can lead to critical battery depletion, exacerbated by an issue with the internal battery protection circuitry.

Key Issue: Battery Depletion

While the device is turned off, the Wi-Fi access point remains operational, resulting in continuous power consumption. Compounding this issue, the battery protection circuitry allows the battery to be drained to its internal protection thresholds. These thresholds are significantly lower than what is considered safe for long-term battery health. They are mealy present in the battery itself to prevent any lithium fires.

Consequences of Prolonged Low Power State

If a device remains in this low-power state for more than 24 hours, the battery cells can experience severe degradation. This degradation not only reduces battery capacity but will cause physical expansion of the cells, which poses a safety risk.

Recommendation

Users should ensure that devices are not left in this state for extended periods. It is highly recommended to plug the device in as soon as possible after usage to avoid entering critical low-power conditions.

Danger

When the device is not in use, you must keep it on charge!

Battery Capacity Indicator

Due to fuel guage issues, we are unable to have an accurate estimate to the lifespan of the device. Accordingly to firmware prior to version v1.40 it will report very inaccurate numbers.
